The wines and their colours
Why are red wines always considered heavy and full-bodied, why are white wines always considered light and fresh, and why do Doris and Matthias Hager now have a blue, a brown and a red line?

The million-year-old Kamptal is known for its diversity.
Firstly, there are very different soils here, which are decisive for the flavour of the wines. For example, we have loess soils here - compacted drift dust from the ice age, clay soils, as remnants of the primeval sea, and then we have very poor primary rock soils, which are responsible for the fact that the vines have to toil more during the summer than in other wine-growing regions and which are responsible for the mineral flavour in the wines.

Secondly, various climatic influences come together in the Kamptal. The hot, dry Pannonian climate from the east meets the harsh, cool climate from the north-western Waldviertel. Hot days, cool nights and long sunny autumn periods naturally bring fruitiness to the wines.
It goes without saying that the Kamptal requires more differentiation than red and white due to the above-mentioned conditions. That is why we have the line subdivisions:

BLUE LINE
Blue is the colour of water and air. The wines of the blue line are just as lively, light and refreshing as these elements. Matured in steel tanks, these wines are sealed with an easily resealable screw cap.
BROWN LINE
Brown is the colour of earth and roots. The wines of the brown line are just as down-to-earth and rooted: strong, full of character and independent. The wines of the Brown Line are harvested late and matured almost exclusively in wooden barrels. Due to the high ageing potential of these wines, they are sealed with natural cork.
RED LINE
Red is the colour of royalty, it is rarely found in nature and stands for something dangerous or special. The Red Line also includes special wines that are vinified without the addition of SO2 and should be savoured with care. They need a lot of time to mature. That's why you should take your time and be patient when savouring and tasting them.
NOBLE METAL LINE
This line includes special wines that have been produced under special conditions, such as our Prädikat wines or the GV 68, which is allowed to mature for 68 months in a mixed acacia oak barrel before being bottled.
